Teach English Program Overview:
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India
>The Situation
Participants will be placed at a private English-medium Primary or Secondary school in
Jaipur. With the assistance of local teachers, participants will teach English classes to children ages 5-13 years old. The schools have been carefully selected based on their capability and willingness to involve international educators into their school system and provide the support, training, and assistance necessary for the participant to succeed at his or her teaching placement. Typical students attending the selected schools come from families who take education very seriously, are committed to their children's academic success, and who would be very excited to have an international teacher at their children's school.
>Teacher Training
All volunteers in our Teach English Programs receive teacher training before going abroad. By completing our online teacher preparation program, you will earn your certification in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), which will give you the skills and confidence needed to teach English overseas. >Airport Pickup and Orientation
Airport pickup and transportation from the Jaipur airport (airport code JAI) to the volunteer hostel is provided. Before the teaching placement begins, participants will partake in a 2-day introduction and orientation session, covering general topics on Indian, culture, history, the contemporary educational system, as relevant to the specific teaching placement.
>Language and Yoga Classes
Volunteers will receive Hindi lessons for 45 minutes a day for a week. Learning the basics of the Hindi Language, the most common language spoken in India, will enrich the cultural experiences of living and working in India, as the participant will have the ability to communicate with people they encounter who don't have adequate English skills.
Participants will have the opportunity to join in every day Yoga & Mediation lessons (45 min lessons), led by a trained English-speaking Ashram guide. Yoga and meditation have deep cultural and historical roots in India and are common forms of practice even within urban areas and cotemporary lifestyles.
>Accommodations
Participants will be accommodated in a shared hostel, with other program participants in Jaipur. Standard bedroom accommodation will be on a 4 person occupancy basis. Single and double occupancy can be requested and made available for additional costs. Accommodation will include modern conveniences, such as a television, refrigerator and DVD player.
